Who We Are

The International Brain Research Foundation, Inc. (IBRF) is a public charity that serves as a platform for funding leading neuroscientists and research institutions around the world. The objective is to maximize the potential benefits derived from basic research and translate it into clinically useful treatments for those afflicted with disorders of the brain.

Committed to excellence in the neurosciences, IBRF is dedicated to promoting brain health for a multitude of disorders. Our network of worldwide resources enables and strengthens multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary collaborative efforts within a unique infrastructure that accelerates and enhances clinical and translational research. The practical application of this work will benefit many individuals by resulting in advances that will improve or potentially reverse neurologic disease entities and create novel treatment approaches.

A three-tiered model representing basic scientific research, clinical and translational research, and a set of multi-university neuroscientific training and educational programs further strengthens our knowledge base of brain functions. IBRF fosters the development of innovative research tools and technologies that further enhances clinical practice. IBRF assists institutions in addressing complex issues with promising ideas, and creates and utilizes novel therapeutic interventions for uncommon disorders.

Our Mission

IBRF's mission is multifaceted, with a vision toward advancing cutting-edge brain research in order to:

  • Design, conduct, support, and oversee cutting-edge neuroscientific research studies worldwide
  • Take the lead in the application and development of brain mapping, nanotechnology, and other groundbreaking expertise to further advance diagnostic and intervention capabilities within the neurosciences
  • Develop multi-center international collaborations and grant opportunities
  • Institute multi-university training and educational programs on leading-edge neuroscience, including certification programs, lecture series, seminars, and conferences.

Accelerating Research: IBRF's Priority

The typical research scientist today faces a myriad of obstacles in trying to obtain grants. The reality is that 40-68% of the money that is donated to research today is used for operational overhead. In addition, the scientist is often encumbered by time-consuming, non-productive administrative tasks required to secure and maintain such funding.

IBRF's goal is to eliminate many of the burdens associated with grant-based funding by offering support through the foundation – thus allowing scientists to devote nearly 100% of their important efforts to their respective research endeavors. Our aim is to remain an organization without the overhead of a large research facility, with a minimum of 90% of all monies going to neuroscience research and related programs. IBRF will remain nimble and able to capitalize on revolutionary research endeavors, and most importantly, on translational research: applying research to clinical care.

“Many sufferers of long-term, debilitating brain disorders have been told that there's no hope. We're here to reverse that thinking. Our goal is to continue to provide diagnostic research and clinical applications that will benefit this increasingly large number of people — and to continue to work toward a cure for many of the brain-related disorders.”
